Beta Eta History

The Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on May 7, 1937, by 15 dynamic women. It was the first Black Greek-lettered Sorority on Alabama State University’s campus. The Beta Eta Chapter has had two members initiated into the chapter become past national presidents, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, and Dr. Yvonne Kennedy. After 87 years, the Beta Eta Chapter’s ability to work diligently on the campus of Alabama State University has been upheld by women continuing the legacy of the chapter. 

The Beta Eta Chapter was Chartered May 7th, 1937. 

Charter members include: Mae Jean Clark, Margaret Forston, Emma Kate Gray, Mildred Motley Hardy, Ella Bennett Jones, Wilhemina Gray Jones, Mabel Robinson Love, Thelma Austin Rice, Fannie Streety, Almedia McGee Stickney, Cleonia Taylor, Mamie L. Thornton, Alice L. Walker, Wilhemina Walker McClain, Soror Willie Pearl Wright.
